Mirta Desir

Mirta Desir is a Haitian-American director based in New York City. She is the recipient of multiple prestigious grants and awards for her writing and directing, including the coveted LYNN SHELTON GRANT, the CAUCUS FOUNDATION GRANT, and the NEW YORK WOMEN IN FILM & TELEVISION AWARD. She was recently awarded the DIRECTORS GUILD OF AMERICA (DGA) GRAND PRIZE FOR THE EAST COAST for 2024-2025 for her short film, JEAN & I.

Desir’s work has been showcased at Oscar-qualifying festivals across the country. And, her previous short films, like ALL THE GAPS, are currently streaming on multiple platforms. Desir is in the development phase of her debut feature film, ANGIE, which was the recipient of the coveted Lynn Shelton Grant. Mirta’s narratives delve into the psychological experiences of her characters, frequently children, as they navigate external pressures and the ways these pressures shape their behavior.

Desir is currently a 2025-26 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Screenwriting from The New York Foundation for the Arts.
